BIOLOGY: WEEK 13




It think that compulsory vaccination should not be enforced because it should be a choice amongst people.  The government should not intervene in personal medical choices regarding health care.  Besides the fact that some people have religious beliefs that are opposed to vaccinations, vaccines can sometimes have adverse or fatal side effects on certain individuals.  Medical procedures should be a personal choice.



I chose my research topic on self tanning because it's a subject that I've been interested in as an esthetician.  The mechanism of self tanning has always been a mystery to me even though I am an occasional user of self tanners.  I work with clients on improving the health and beauty of their skin on a daily basis and the research on self tanning gives me more information to add to my knowledge of skin care products.  My clients depend on me to educate them about different products and options in terms of caring for their skin and the current concern for proper sun protection has resulted in a growing interest in self tanners.

    Oh self tanning! That's a really interesting topic and I'm interested to see what you find! It's been such a craze for a long time, and I wonder what are the actual pros and cons from the practice, and if it's more or less dangerous than tanning from direct sun exposure?

RACHELLE'S PHYSICS BIO

I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and have been living in the Bay Area with my family since 2004.  I've worked an esthetician for the past decade by helping clients achieve their skin care goals.  I am now dedicated to being a student in Chinese medicine school and fulfilling an interest that was sparked long ago as a young child in my grandmother's kitchen.  She brought her knowledge of village medicine from China to the United States and used it in our household to treat various illnesses and ailments.  I am hopeful that my current journey will be a bridge for the knowledge of the inner and outer landscapes of the human body.
